Lab-verified Mozambique stone drew 72 bids during The Gem Portal’s live show on Gem Rock Auctions
GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA, October 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — An 8.314-carat Paraíba tourmaline sold for US$18,625 on October 15 in a live online auction on Gem Rock Auctions that opened at US$1 with no reserve. The stone was offered by The Gem Portal during a live show and received 72 bids before selling to a buyer in Australia. The live show as a whole drew 1,244 bids. The result equates to about US$2,240 per carat.
The faceted oval measures 14.90 x 12.28 x 7.37 mm. Bellerophon Gemlab in Paris examined it, and its report (B79430, dated September 30, 2026) identifies the stone as a natural Paraíba tourmaline from Mavuco, Mozambique, with “no indications of any treatment.” The report can be verified on the Bellerophon Gemlab website at gemlabanalysis.com/verification using the report number.
Because the auction had no reserve, bidders set the final price during the live session, which started at 10:30pm New York time on October 14 (12:30pm AEST, October 15). The auction listing shows the full bid history.
Live shows on Gem Rock Auctions are streamed by verified sellers, with registered bidders placing bids in real time while the seller presents each item on camera. Bidders must hold a verified account before bidding.
Paraíba tourmaline is a copper-bearing variety of tourmaline. It was first found in Brazil’s Paraíba state in the late 1980s and later in Nigeria and Mozambique. Stones of this size usually trade privately or through traditional auction houses.
“We started it at one dollar with no reserve and let the bidders decide. Seventy-two bids later, the market had set the price live, in front of everyone,” said Ross Sedawie, COO of Gem Rock Auctions.
High-resolution images and video of the stone are available on request.
